Branch "Action Groups" endeavor to reach out into the community and make a difference. These groups are the grassroots activism that is the excitement and foundation of AAUW.

Community Service action group

collects and distributes items to local groups such as the Bedford Women's Prison and the Ruth Taylor Home.

Diversity action group

sponsors bold events designed to evoke questions and a reexamination of assumptions about ourselves and others. The Diversity Action Group also develops strategies for increasing the diversity of branch membership.

promotes equitable education for girls and women, fosters an understanding of what constitutes gender equity and sexual harassment in our schools, and reaches out to the community and area schools to achieve its goals.

Educational Awards

awards scholarships and awards to outstanding local students through the Branch scholarship program. In celebration of Women's History Month, the Branch essay contest financially rewards 11th-graders whose essays on "A Woman Who Has Had A Significant Influence On My Life" best exemplifies the highest writing standards.

Publicity

works with all aspects of the media to get the word out about our dynamic programs and projects. By successfully publicizing our events we are able to increase the impact of our efforts.

Public Policy/Voter Education action group

works to advance AAUW's public policy issues through a wide range of interesting and motivating voter education and community outreach.

Legal Advocacy Fund

raises funds to assist women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education. Contributions are tax deductible.

International Affairs

works to increase awareness on issues relating to women's rights worldwide. A major part of IA programming is raising funds for Bina Roy Partners in Development Programme (BRPID) which encourages projects empowering women and girls through education and leadership development.
